    Hi everyone,
    I haven't posted in a while.
My cardiologist is encouraging me to go Vegan.  I am not enthused.
I eat very moderately; I should eat more vegetables. I have lost weight and I exercise most days. Go to the YMCA and take Silver Sneakers and water exercise. I feel a thousand per cent better than I did I 2020 when I had the heart attack.
Is anybody else here vegan? How did you transition? I'm not sure how to go about it.

    Thanks,
    Janis

I'm all for eating healthily and dietary vigilance, but, while not knowing your particulars, I wouldn't think going vegan is necessary. I do fine with skinless chicken breasts, sliced turkey, occasionally salmon, scallops, and 4 oz of super lean hamburger once a week. Weight was not my problem but sodium was so I cut WAY down on that. I'll be interested in what other say.

I have been vegan for the last couple of years. Before that, I was a vegetarian. I must tell you; it is the best decision ever. The only difficulty I had was with the food options. I also had a heart condition, for which I opted for a diet that was enriched with therapeutical herbs and spices. However, after doing a lot of research, I could find some sites and books with vegan recipes. My favorite is iahas.com as Ayurveda backs their recipes.

i live in Rochester too and am on a whole food plant based diet recommended by my cardiologist and I love it. He also wants me to eat fish for omega3. There is a business called Sweet Pea on Culver Rd, where you can order meals that are excellent. Their website is
    www.sweetpeaplantbased,com

Also on South Av is a Vegan store called Abundance which is excellent. Lori's on Jefferson road is good too

Give it a try. Are you a member of our MH chapter?
Go to www.mendedheartsrochester.com and go to Meetings page to see presentation by Sweet Pea. On the Members page are 2 PDFs for joining

Thanks Marty for your encouraging words. I am a member of the Rochester chapter.
I wish I could afford Sweet Pea, however I receive food stamps.  I also don't cook much; so, always checking salt & fat content I buy a lot of convenience foods.
