    Hi,

I am a new member who is going to be having surgery sometime in the next 2-6 weeks.  I have some concerns about the post OHS recovery that caused me to seek out a discussion forum

I was born with a bi-cuspid aortic valve and later developed an aortic aneurysm   I have been monitoring the leak (originally diagnosed as moderate/severe) since I was 19 years old.  We only discovered the aneurysm a few years ago (at 5.0 cm).  It hasn't changed much since then (one measurement of 5.1cm).  My surgeon is recommending surgery now (for  both issues) and I feel that it is a good time to address it.

I am lucky in that I have a healthy heart.  That's if you can ignore the bad valve and aneurysm.  Other than that my arteries are less than 10% narrowed and I haven't had any heart attacks or additional enlargement since we started monitoring it for the leak.

I am also lucky in that I am in a position to decide when to have the surgery instead of having it done in emergency situation.  I read  posts from members who weren't so lucky and it seems like they went through a lot.

I look forward to learning from you and helping out where I can.

    Mike,
I have a 5.0 cm aortic aneurism I'm having surgery to fix this Friday. I have a healthy heart as well. It's good you're getting surgery to repair. It's better sooner than later. You will benefit better in your recovery being healthy. I'll find out how my recovery will go as well. I'm hoping it goes well. I'll pray for a successful surgery for you.

    Thanks,
