  • 1.  Second Aortic Valve Replacement

    Hello All,
I am facing my second aortic valve replacement later this month.  I had a severely stenotic bicuspid aortic valve that was replaced with a St Jude Trifecta in Nov 2013.  Unfortunately, this valve has developed stenosis and I am past the "critical" numbers, so it has to be replaced soon.
First, I would like to hear about anyone's second operation and recovery (I know we all heal differently).
Second, my surgeon is recommending the Carpentier-Edwards pericardial aortic valve and I am curious about who has this.
Third, if you have the St. Jude Trifecta, how are you doing?
Not looking forward to the healing process a second time, but this surgery must be done.
    Thanks in advance!

My research shows the Carpenter Edwards valve a replacement for the mitral valve.  You stated an aortic valve.  I have had the Starr Edwards Aortic Valve replacement 1996, my second replacement.  As I am doing well at 87 years of age, I would highly recommend the Starr Edwards Valve for an Aortic valve replacement.  Check with your doctor.

    Donald and Rani,

I'm not a doctor, but my research reflects that the Carpentier-Edwards valve is indeed used as an aortic valve replacement.

    Best regards,

    Ira

After further research, I see there is an aortic valve called the Carpebtier Edwards Valve for aortic valve replacement.  Thus Ira Reid was correct.

    Hi Rani,
Hope all is good for you.  I just had my 2nd AVR with Edwards bovine valve (1st done in 2003) great valve that lasted 16 plus years when implanted at a relatively young age (I was 42, now 58).

Feel free to get back in touch with me
