    When I meet people these days and they find out about my surgery, pretty much everyone says the same thing....'Wow, what a lousy way to start the year!" My response is exactly the opposite..."What a great way to start the year.... I'm alive!"

    John,

    As I said to my children yesterday, "We each have 24 hours today, and the challenge is to make the most of it," which I live by everyday since January 10, 2007, when my first life ended with my heart stopping. The lessons I learned during my fight, through 11 surgeries and procedures, to return physically, mane tally and emotionally, to my previous life style inspired my book "One Heart-Two Lives: Managing Your Rehabilitation Program WELL." Tough road but the result is a better understanding of myself, other and our surroundings.
