I have a member in my chapter in her 70's with cardiomyopathy and also has two failing valves, mitral and aortic.  She is very scared and would like to talk with someone who has been through similar experiences.  She is afraid she is too old/fragile to survive surgery.  If there is anyone out there who could communicate with her, just to share experiences, it would be appreciated.  She is available by phone, email, and/or text.  Please contact me and I will provide contact information.

    Thanks,

Joe, My name is David . I cannot give you any advise on her condition or any medical information. BUT I can help you and her with some mental stress reduction.  I am  82  and this Dec= 83. I had open Heart (Cabg x 4} in 1998 and a second OHS in 2004. One great way is to put your mind in to a better place. MUSIC  MUSIC and than a little music. Take an i pad, phone, lap top, Phonograph what ever she or you have. With or without head phones. Many sites on YOU-TUBE. just put in for Music (or-Dance)--name an artist,  Broadway,  BBC-Proms, the selections are endless. The phone sites--Spotify ,Pandora. ask the Grand Kids any 30 year old to help organize.  On the T V or the computer. entertain yourselves. Pass on the news. Comedy any form will get your head out of bed for a short lift  both while in the hospital and out. What ever will put a smile on her face.
This will take her to a much better place in her mind. I have been a visitor to patients and family in the hospital for the last 14 years as well as on line like this.
I can tell you, I have spoken with many hundreds over the years,70's are now  55/60.. Positive Attitude reduces the pain, helps healing, lots of  books on the topic. Just be more aware of what you can do to ease the stress on mind and body.
I hope this gives you some tools to work with her and others.
    Good luck,
    David Rosen

its so normal to worry about surgery as you get older.  There are so many factors involved.  I suggest being sure if the surgeon and the anesthesiologist and getting second opinions.
My father (aged 90 at the time ) had other medical issues and talked to 3 surgeons until he found one willing to take the risks. .. His joy and health were improved immediately.
Surgery is such a difficult decision, there goal is to have more time with your loved ones. Good luck to your friend
