  • 1.  NO admittance to hospital

Hi, I'm new here. I've been diagnosed with chronic CHF for almost a year now. It has exacerbated and is acute at the moment. I have about 25 lbs of fluid retained. I went to my kidney doctor after a recent ER visit (my cardiologist sent me, but then I ended up waiting 8 hrs to be seen and then they barely did anything, sent me home and told me to call the cardiologist the next day).  He immediately called the hospital to admit me but the hospital refused to admit me sayng that due to covid, they were triaging for only patients in dire need. Both of the hospitals here refused me. So now I'm on a third diuretic (metazalone) along with my 4mg of bumex twice a day and spiranalactone (sp?) and a higher dose of potassium because I'm constantly low on potassium.  I'm worried. I can barely walk because it is so painful (my skin hurts), and I am barely peeing (only 3-4 times a day, and I'm pretty sure I should be doing more than that), and when I walk or get into bed I have this awful shortness of breath. I have to do this alone and check in with the kidney doctor on the 25th to see if the fluid has come off. I just can't believe I'm not in the hospital right now. I feel so terrible, and I have to go through it. Has anyone else ever experienced this? Please give me encouragement or maybe tell me what you did to overcome it when you went through it.

Amy, you may have to call for EMS to go to the hospital in an ambulance. Be very sure to tell the EMS personnel and the emergency room doctor that you are having trouble breathing and can't get your breath. You can buy one of the oxygen level detectors. Most drug stores have them. That would verify your oxygen levels. I was in the hospital a year ago for Covid-19. About 3 weeks after I was released, I couldn't get me breath. I tried to get my GP and my cardiac doctors to prescribe oxygen for me. They wouldn't. The next day I felt very out of breath so I called EMS told them I couldn't get my breath. They transported me to the emergency room. There, they determined that I had CHF and admitted me. This was at the peak of Covid-19 hospitalizations. They found me a cardiac room. I spent three days on diuretics and was released. In the hospital they did a lot of diagnostics and adjusted my medications. I still have the CHF and have to weigh myself daily and adjust my diuretics according the cardiac doctor's directions. It is terrible but the only way to get into the hospital is through the emergency room.
