    Aortic Surgery

JP Morgan CEO is recovering after Emergency Heart Surgery
    Wall Street Journal
    March 6, 2020

Jamie Dimon, CEO of JP Morgan & Chase, 63, experienced an "acute aortic dissection" a tear in the inner lining of the aorta blood vessel requiring surgery Thursday morning.

The condition for which Dimon had surgery on Thursday is called an acute aortic dissection, where the inner lining of the aorta tears away from the outer edge of the tube.

It is a serious, potentially deadly event that, left untreated, can lead to a heart attack or the aorta collapsing, said Dr. Gabriele Di Luozzo, director of thoracic aortic surgery at Mount Sinai Morningside hospital in New York.

During surgery, about 6-8 inches of the aorta nearest to the heart is replaced typically with a synthetic tube, said Di Luozzo.

"This is a major operation," Di Luozzo said. "In a typical elective surgery (to replace) an aorta, the risk of death is in the 2-3% range. But when you have an emergency operation it can be as high as 20%."

If treated in time, post-surgery lasts typically from 5 to 10 days in hospital, followed by cardiac rehab recovery at home.

    Folks,

If anyone here knows this guy or a member of his family, or is a Mount Sinai Mended Hearts Visitor, tell him about Mended Hearts and invite him to this group.

FYI - The only Manhattan-based chapter (where Mt. Sinai Hospital is located) is Chapter 108 and happens to be affiliated with New York University Hospital.  We have members  who have joined even though they go to one of a number of other Manhattan-based hospitals.

    Sir,
So glad you are out of danger. I had my aortic valve replaced with a prosthetic aortic valve way back in 1976. I am 63. And healthy and active.
I wanted to let you know that there may be emotional healing needed  Because OH
Surgery is a traumatic event.your body says, " I got this, i will need time to heal, (at your own pace) but the mind is like "WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED HERE ! I hope you get the emotional support you may need.

    In peace

    Victor,

I think we should alert Andrea to the opportunity we have to get Jamie involved with Mended Hearts.  In addition to helping Jamie, it can't hurt Mended Hearts to develop a relationship with JPMC.  I intend to email her and I will cc you.

    Best regards,

    Ira
