Rest assured, a weight gain of 3 pounds in one day or 5 pounds in one week is caused by edema (fluid retention) whether you see swelling or not. You cannot physically gain that much in such a short period of time no matter how much you partake in holiday cheer.
As a frequent flyer, I've had many instances where swelling was not evident yet had fluid overload. In fact, I'm enjoying it now.
You should weigh yourself every morning, before eating and watch for increases. I would strongly recommend you talk with your Cardiologist and ask him/her what to do. I increase my lasix (as advised by my doctor) until the edema is under control. Again check with your dr first. There is a limit on safe dosages.
