I have surgery coming up for a descending thoracic aneurysm, not sure if anything else involved. Meeting with surgeon at NY Presbyterian Hospital next week. Has anyone had this kind of surgery and had to spend time in rehab. If yes, how long was the stay in rehab. Thank you

    Henry,
In 2017, I had aortic arch surgery preformed by Dr. Leonard  Girardi at the New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center. NYP is one of the highest ranked medical centers for cardiac surgery in the country.  I was in the hospital after the procedure for nine days and then discharged to continue my recovery at home.  The staff can arrange for a visiting nurse if you request it and it's required.  After six weeks you can participate in a cardiac rehab program at NYP or another facility.  The program is one hour per visit, three days per week over three months.  Studies have found that patients that participate in cardiac rehab recover quicker and live a longer healthy life. I strongly suggest you speak to your cardiologist about making arrangements.
Good Luck for a successful outcome,
