I am scheduled to have OHS on 2/18 to replace bicuspid Aortic Valve and repair Aortic Aneurysm (It is located directly above the root and continues to the Arch).  I have been healthy all winter and then on Friday I went out for a walk at work in very cold weather.  Now I have cold symptoms - congested sinus, sinus burning and sore throat.  I don't feel bad overall, and I don't have a fever that I know of.

I will try to call their office tomorrow but it is a holiday and I don't know if anyone will be there to answer.  What have you heard or experienced in this area?

    Thanks

    Mike,
I was scheduled to have OHS on January 3rd, but it got cancelled due to my surgeon having an emergency surgery on someone else. They had rescheduled for the following Monday January 6th, but I came down with a cold over that weekend. They wouldn't do the surgery until the cold leaves the body, generally two weeks later. They said it can also hinder your recovery as well. So they scheduled me for February 28th. They ought to reschedule yours as well. Tell them tomorrow you have this cold.

    Thanks,
    Scott Woodward

I had the same thing happen and could not get through to the doctor or switchboard at all, so I just went in like I normally would if I was going to have the surgery, and my team did not deem it too bad of an illness because I did not have a fever or coughing.

I had to be there at 4 am for the surgery, and thought if they did cancel me, at least I would be back in my own bed by 8 am.

Good luck and please let us know how you are doing

    No they wont operate
I was scheduled for a knee replacement and the day before i started to have a raspy voice. The preop nurse caught on to my trying to ignore it. The anesthesia doctor rejected me before they even put in the i v tube in my arm in the preop area . They will not risk your germs from “a cold “ going into a operation room or into your your heart or your wound area. My knee surgery was postponed 2 months ...
