Hello all,
I am 52 was diagnosed by chance in July with a congenital bicuspid aortic aneurysm measuring 5.1cm. A follow up scan in October showed the aneurysm is still 5.1cm and the advice is to monitor the condition every 4/5 months before a date for surgery is fixed. I am now taking beta blockers and statins. I am the correct weight, have a good diet and do not smoke or have diabetes. I monitor my heart rate via a sports watch (Garmin). Currently I cycle, walk, swim, play tennis (doubles) and golf. In all cases less strenuously than pre diagnosis.
Can anyone advise regarding exercise? I am told to be active, however I find that while my resting heart rate is ok - around 60 according to the watch - when I exercise it regularly goes to between 90-125, sometimes up to 135 (tennis). Is this safe? Also is skiing safe, both in relation to altitude and intensity?
Thanks for any guidance on this and other areas.
Dan
