My aerobic thoracic aneurism surgery has been scheduled for December 5, 2019. After a lot of stops and starts emotionally and getting a couple of opinions,I'm not nervous, and I'm very prepared. The doctor said there's a 97% chance that I could come out of this unscathed, so I will have to add that into my factor of faith that everything will go as planned. I will be off of work for three months. The surgery takes four hours and the doctor told me that I would be in intensive care for three days and nine days in the hospital, but I'm hoping that it will be less. At 55 I have a lot of life left in me, I lost my mother this year in July, my uncles husband died one month and a half ago of a brain aneurysm, and my uncle just passed away on November 6, I believe he died of a broken heart. There has been a lot of things in 2019, But I realize that I need to take care of number one and that is me.
I wanted to thank whoever reached out to me and said why would you want to wait and think about it rupturing, just have it now and take care of it. My dad used to say whatever needs to be done do it, so I will add that into my plan.

    Hi Tim,
Dec 5th is right around the corner. i finally done my valve replacement last monday and it was successful. i was so scared until sunday morning before the surgery, i was keep debating & planning things in case i don't come out of it until something told me to call my friend's mom who i haven't spoken in a long time who been thru lots of surgeries. She told me something that calm me down and really really make me looking forward to the surgery, she said " just imagine you are taking you car to mechanic shop" i know it may not sound too much but at that moment really really helped me.
now adays the surgeries are so advanced, they gave me state of the art tissue valve (cow) my Dr. did not recommend mechanical or any other. so far it's been exactly a week, i feel just fine and i can not believe all these years i haven't been breathing right.
most of good luck to you and please post how it went. i'm sure it will go great. JUST IMAGINE YOU ARE TAKING YOUR CAR TO REPAIR A BROKEN TIRE.

    Hi Tim,

I hope your surgery went well and wanted to see how you are feeling 1 month after your surgery. I am planning on have my surgery to repair my mitral valve that was leaking. I am a bit nervous myself but trying to remain positive that this will all work out.

Hi Anthony i happen to see your email to Tim about having your valve replaced because of a leakage. I recently had mine done 6 weeks ago & Dr said that for 3 months may have a chance of stroke. I was wondering how u found out u had leakage is it something u tested for or u felt it.

    Hi Mary,

According to the surgeons that I met with, they said there is a high chance that they can repair the valve. I am scheduled to have a CT scan and a Trans esophageal echo cardiogram this week to get more information of the anatomy of my valve. I'm sorry to hear that you were so close to having a stroke, but glad they were able to catch it in time. I hope you're doing well feeling after your surgery.
I have been feeling a minor heart murmur for about 10-12 years with the occasional bouts of arrhythmia (10-13 over the years). I have mention this to my previous GP and Cardiologist but was dismissed as a minor issue. It wasn't last year was when I felt the murmur getting stronger that I told my new GP about it and he recommended me to go to another Cardiologist to have some tests done. The tests confirmed that I there was major leakage and that my EV was at 55% and surgery was highly recommended. I had a second opinion at the Heart Hospital in Austin, where an MRI was done to confirm the leakage and EV and the need for surgery was then confirmed. I am 34 years old and live a very active life of hiking, camping, and traveling with my wife. I'm hoping this surgery will keep me around a bit longer to do these things with the ones I love.

I am sure you will get back to doing the things you love with ones you love.  You will need to fight for it though. Make sure to ask for physical therapy.  You will not feel like you should be moving around but the reality is you will need to.  Ask your medical team what you can do.  Mine had me walking outside as soon as I got home.  I actually began training for my first and so far only mini triathlon after surgery.  It was a great way to make sure you continue to work out beyond therapy.  Listen to your team when they tell you low sodium diet.  BTW most easily done but using what I call not this but that plan.  For example, you like spaghetti but don't make your own sauce.  Look at all the labels at the store near you that has the biggest selection.  You might be surprised to find the lowest sodium option is not the one listed as low sodium. Little Italy found in Cleveland has 140mg and the low sodium 350, regular around 600-700mg.

Good luck, have faith in your team,

    Robin Davis
