  • 1.  Suggestions on how to break the news?

    Posted 04-01-2017 02:00

Late this evening, after I called numerous times, our daugher's surgeon responded to a text I wrote to him. He was kind enough to give us her results from her excersise stress test and echocardiogram, 4 months post op. She is cleared to resume all normal activities and playing of all sports. (Of course within reason we know! She's also 9.) However, basketball, running, dance, gymnastics, it's all a GO!

So, we haven't told her yet. We were going to wait until big brother could pop in from college so he's here to share in the good news too. I was thinking a bunch of balloons. Maybe a sign that she's cleared.

I thought about taking her to Sky Zone but the pediatrician's office said there are so many flu cases still state wid, so that means she's still needing to wear a mask. She's come so far this last 4 months. We don't need an upper respiratory infection to come knock her down again and chance a hospital stay.

So please, any suggestions or ideas send them my way!

I am having an issue with my leg. So I'm limited to what I can runout to grab but I can always send my husband or my oldest on his way here! (Praying I either get the courage to go get my leg checked or the issues resolve on their own!)

Thanks in advance for any ideas!!!!!

Hey Teddy, this is wonderful news!  She is going to be so excited when she finds out.

Do you have any videos of her playing sports in the past?  If so, maybe you could show it to her, and then bring out a sign or balloons that say she's free and clear to play again.  Or maybe a cake with a basketball, running shoe, etc... on it?  Or maybe a new pair of running shoes?  The possibilities to share good news are endless!

We ended up making a sign and getting balloons. Big brother is away at college (not far so he could make it home to celebrate and surprise her.) So, we waited to tell her a day after we found out till big brother could come home and be a part of the news. She just LOVES her big brother. They have a special bond so I knew she'd wan him there. (However she was even afraid to run up and hug him  and stuff at first. I thinks he was taking it all in. Didn't help we did it on April 1st so she thought it was an April Fools joke! LOL I'm not that cruel, however my husband did joke and say April Fools ...)
We blindfolded her, walked her into the room (She though big brother was getting a surprise too and was blind folded walking in front of her...) We didn't tell the other 2 siblings because we knew they couldn't keep is a secret! We got it on video. Even her big sister is all excited in the video when she walked into the room, read the sign that she was cleared and couldn't stop smiling and jumping up and down!
So, I think the way we decided to do it was a great fit for her.
Sunday afternoon we were walking out of the house to run an errand and she takes off running off the porch yelling "Look at me gooooo....." like she's flying with her arms while running. Brought a smile to my face. However it's been a difficult adjustment for her. So now we are dealing with that...
