coming up on 7 weeks after my 5xCABG

Thursday will be 7 weeks since "the event"...I still have fatigue and sleeplessness. Is this normal? The pain is tolerable. But the feeling of being tired won't go away. Am I worrying for naught?

Hi Paul I'm 14 weeks post-op cabgx2 and I still get exhausted.  Not sure what's normal, will call tomorrow for an appointment with my PCP.

Thank you, William. We'll just keep moving and progressing...no matter how fast. It's better to focus on the things that are working better since the surgery. Better circulation is good on a number of levels.

    Paul and William,

I’m 21 weeks post-CABGx5 plus 13 days intubated and sedated with aspiration pneumonia and c diff infection and, yes, it’s totally normal to feel tired after 7 weeks and 14 weeks post-surgery. It does gradually get better but the process is slow. It makes sense, too, when you think about what your body has gone through only a very short time ago.

I’m turning 68 this month, am back to work and the gym (a normal gym, not the rehab gym) but my strength still is not even close to what it was pre-surgery. I’m getting stronger, though, every day. I’ll get there and so will you. Give it time.

    Ira

Paul.  I gradually got better. The improvement was so slow that it was hard to tell if I was improving.  It took about 2 months. I am almost 5 years post CABGx7.  I hope you feel better soon.

Paul, I agree that there is a degree of whole new sets of aches, pains and fatigue. You didn't mention if you have gone to cardiac rehab, that got me moving. I would also suggest you make a visit to your pharmacist. Some of the medications are designed to slow you down but the daily dose is not always the best for the individual patient. Your cardiologist and the pharmacist should be able to give you more advice based on your history with medications. My "event" took place in 2002, a triple bypass. By week 7 I was beginning to return ti semi-normal. By week 12 my wife and I went to Ireland to play golf for 10 days. It could not have happened without Cardiac Rehab. I also found sleeplessness to be a problem and the pharmacist suggested OTC Melatonin. It works for me to this day with no problems. Dr. Bill, Chapter 179.
