Blockage of Repaired Arteries

  • 1.  Blockage of Repaired Arteries

I underwent quad bypass surgery in June 2013.  Off late I have been feeling tired.  Contacted my cardiologist to report the problem.  At the suggestion of my cardiologist I underwent cardiac cauterization procedure.  Test results indicate I have three blocked arteries.  My main artery "mamar" artery is fully open and functional.  The interventional cardiologist told me not to worry about my failed arteries.

Did has one faced this problem and if so what steps have they taken.

    Thanks

    Hi Ash,

I'm not a doctor and I haven't dealt with your specific problem, but I did have quintuple bypass surgery in February 2018 that included grafting my left mammary artery to bypass my blocked left anterior descending coronary artery (the widow-maker).  I also did a lot of reading in the medical literature, including with respect to the development of new blockages after CABG surgery and learned that, although veins used to bypass blocked arteries do tend to get blocked again over time, mammary arteries are much more resistant to new blockages.  If they used your mammary artery to bypass a widow-maker blockage, and considering what your cardiologist told you, it may be that you're okay for now.  I suggest that you explore this in more detail with your cardiologist, including whether you can resolve the tiredness without surgery and, if you're still not satisfied, seek a second opinion.

Best of luck and please keep us posted.

    Ash,
I had triple bypass in 2007 and CryoAblation to cure AFibs in December 2017.
Generally the rule for repair on blockage is  If more that 50% blocked, fix it
If it is less than 50% let it go.
Do you know your "blockage percentages"? I would be leery of any Cardiologist who says "ignore blockages" unless he/she was certain of the percentages.
