My mum 81 is 4 weeks in from a full open chest surgery to repair a valve . She doesn't like taking the codein based pain relief due to constipation and only has 1 to sleep

    issues she is having

pain in central back after luring down to sleep (starts after about 3 hours ) so ends up sitting in her chair

sharp pain along with slight clunking , popping on some movements in lower sternum

Is this normal ? She is also speaking to a nurse this afternoon to get blood pressure checked etc etc

Of course, talk to your cardiologist and PCP about all these situations.

The sternum requires a lot of TLC. Some discomfort and minor pain is normal. Hold a soft pillow against the sternum for all movements in body position. Mainly, getting in and out of chairs, bed, etc. My pillow was my "best friend" for several weeks.

    All the best.
