Bio

I joined the "zipper club" in 2002 after a heart attack and quintuple bypass. I started visiting heart patients and their loved ones as soon as I could. I was determined to fill that void in my experience. I visit people in need of hope before and after heart procedures, in the hospital, by phone and by email.
I was invited to start a Mended Hearts chapter in the greater Portland, Maine area. I jumped at the opportunity to help myself and others stay compliant with the doctors orders, plus be informed about the cutting edge technology of all things cardiovascular .
I thought I was all set for decades, but I had another heart attack and stents in 2016. There is too much heart disease in my family.
*I haven't been able to take statins because of the nightmares they all caused. My cholesterol was not astronomical, but I was eventually approved for Repatha by my insurance company. Please do not let the $15,000 price tag keep you from pushing forward if your current medicine is not helping enough. Amgen pharmaceuticals has a patient assistance program and they do not ask for financial information. That brought my co-pay down to a very reasonable $5 for now. All insurances are different, so stand firm until you get what you need. I found it difficult to find people to talk to who had experience with this drug. I am available to answer questions from my perspective. My LDL dropped to 17 in 2 months, no side effects so far, and the shots are easy with the tiny hidden needle in the "pen". I called the help number and said "yes" to have a nurse come to my house for the first shot.
