  • 1.  Aortic Valve Question

    Posted 01-18-2022 08:27
My ct scan showed my aortic valve is bicuspid probably due to calcification and my age.  I am 65.  The cardiologist said I could still do tavr but added risk for valve tear due to my valve is spherical instead of round.  Has anyone else been told this?  I will get a couple more opinions.  Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you very much.

Hi Jeff,  I saw a cardiologist for a routine checkup last year only to discover I had a bicuspid aortic valve with high regurgitation.  I met with Dr Alfredo Trento at the Smidt Heart Institute at Cedars-Sinai and he mentioned both the TAVR as well as open heart surgery as the possible avenues.   I opted for valve replacement via open heart surgery since had there been a problem with the TAVR ultimately they would have had to perform OHS....the tried and true method.   This is a short version of long story...but I am 6 months post op, feeling great  and just finishing cardiac rehab.  Email me if I can assist in any way.
