  • 1.  Interatrial Septal Aneurysm. Can it dissapear?

Hi! I have been experiencing chest pain or pressure for over 15 years, but doctors couldn't find what was the problem. Back then, a doctor said I had arrhythmia another mention angina, heart murmur, but nothing specific. In 2016, I went to ER because I was having chest pain, the doctor ordered an echocardiogram and it revealed I have an interatrial septal aneurysm, a leak, or valve regurgitation in mitral, pulmonic, and tricuspid valves. Since I was going through a divorce after being married for 24 years, I totally forgot this diagnosis until a few months ago. I have been having shortness of breath for several years, I thought it was due to nodules in both of my lungs or allergies, asthma, I tried to dismiss the symptoms. My blood pressure is normal. I went to a cardiologist 3 months ago, everything was normal. I have a heart murmur, but that was it. Last week I was hospitalized for two days due to chest pressure/pain, which was bad, I was feeling like I was having a heart attack. Again, the tests they did at the hospital, didn't reveal the interatrial septal aneurysm, nor the studies the cardiologist did a few months ago. One of the CT heart revealed I had pulmonary hypertension, then in the next CT, it disappeared. I am totally confused. Can an interatrial septal aneurysm disappear? Why it won't show in recent tests, though I am still feeling sick and short of breath? Any comments? I appreciate it if you share with me your experience. I am 56 years old, eat healthy, and was working out until recently. I have an appointment with another cardiologist on Dec 22. The previous cardiologist didn't know I have an interatrial septal aneurysm since I forgot about it until I was organizing my health binder and read the report :(

That is really bizarre, Elsie.  Where do you live?  It might be time for you to make an appointment at one of the top heart clinics in the US to really get to the bottom of this, like the Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic or one of a handful of others, depending on where you live and what's convenient for you.  Maybe some of the folks on this site can make some recommendations to you,

    Please let us know,

Thank you, Ira!! I live in Orlando, FL. I know, it's strange... and I still feel shortness of breath. When I lift a box or walk a lot, I feel like I lift something extraordinary heavy. I have an appointment with another cardiologist but I will consider your suggestion. I was hoping someone could relate to my story.
    Thank you for replying ;)

We're all brothers and sisters here, Elsie.  Please let us know how it goes with the new cardiologist and, if you need a further referral in Florida, perhaps someone here will have a suggestion.

    All the best,

    Ira
