     The regularly scheduled meeting for this month will be held at Millie Henn’s house on October 22. The purpose of the meeting is twofold. First there will be a small business meeting followed by, second, a pillow stuffing session where we will prepare pillows to hand out to the patients. Based on federal and state guidelines, please bring a mask to wear if you are attending .We would like to see you in person. This is the first planned in-person gathering since the 40th anniversary celebration in March. I hope to see a really good turnout for this event.

     Chapter News and Updates

    • Please keep our past Chapter 12 President Louise Oldham in your thoughts and prayers. Her husband Wayne passed away on September 26, 2020 and Louise is recuperating from the Covid virus after spending 11 days in the hospital.
    • Thanks to Athena Stinson for making and donating 16 heart pillows during October. Athena has been a supporter of the chapter’s pillow project for years.
    • Plan to attend the Southwest Region Fall Virtual Expo in November. Put these dates on your calendar so you won’t forget. November 11, 6:00 pm is mainly for all Chapter/Group Leaders but everyone can attend. November 12, 6:00 pm is for the full membership and guests. How to join the Zoom meeting will be announced later. Watch your email for more information.

     The theme of the event is “Coming Together in Common Support”. Both Mended Hearts and Mended Little Hearts will be representing. Please join us to learn more about our two “worldwide” support programs and how we can support each other.

     

    • There is a Western Virtual Regional Conference hosted by MH Chapter 389 of Salem< Oregon planned for Saturday, October 24, from 9 to 2 Pacific Time. Some of the region's top experts to speak on a variety of topics important to heart patients, parents of children with CHD and family members trying to navigate health care and health wellness.     Mended Hearts Cen-Tex Chapter 12

    September 24, 2020 Meeting Minutes

          Mended Hearts Chapter 12 met Thursday, September 24, 2020, via Zoom.   Attending the meeting were  Raylene Jeffries, Tracy and Sam Kaiser,  Mary Myers, Dale Whitney John Hasandras, Letty and Dean Rucker,  and Millie Henn  President Jeffries called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone at 6:30 p.m.                                      

           Mr. Jeffries announced that he has submitted his resume to serve as the Southwest Regional Director. He presented information about Mended Hearts building a bridge to Mended Little Hearts in order to unify the two groups.

          Mr. Jeffries called the business portion of the chapter meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. The minutes from the August 27, 2020 chapter meeting were approved with a correction in treasurer’s report. The balance In August was $2,388.32. The treasurer’s report given by  Letty Rucker was accepted.  The chapter’s balance is $2,385.32 with $965.49 restricted to the pillow project.

    Visiting chair Lloyd Jeffries reported 40 visits for September and a year to date total of 412 visits.                                        

    Mr. Whitney reported that the Looking for Support postcards from the national office have arrived. A postcard will accompany each heart pillow given to a patient. The postcards are also being distributed in the hospital cardiac areas.  He also reported 265 pillows distributed to patients to date.

    Mrs. Henn reported distribution of an September newsletter and will distribute an October newsletter. She requested member news be sent to her to include in newsletter.

    Next meeting will be 6:00 pm, October 22, 2020, at the home of Millie Henn.  The meeting time will be used to stuff and sew heart pillows. This will be first pillow making gathering in 2020. Meeting adjourned at 8:00 pm.
