Members of the Baylor Scott & White Heart Failure Team will discuss heart failure symptoms and February is American Heart Month, and a good opportunity to attend a chapter meeting and invite a friend, neighbor or relative who would benefit from our education program and the support our Mended Hearts chapter provides. *********************************************************************************
Chapter News and Update
The chapter welcomed visitors Dean and Cindy Youngblood and Alan Lazarow to our January meeting and look forward to seeing them in February.
Chapter 12 will celebrate its 40th Anniversary on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 from 2-4 pm in pm at BS&W in the Desk1H lobby. A representative from the Temple City Council will recognize our chapter with a proclamation, the Mended Hearts Southwest Regional Director will present a plaque from the MH national office and Dr. Michael will speak. Refreshments will be served. The hope is that many of the heart patients and families who have been touched by Mended Hearts over the last 40 years will come and help celebrate. Please plan to attend.
Lloyd Jeffries and Millie Henn represented Chapter 12 on Saturday, February 8 at the BS&W AFIB program, will represent the chapter on February 29 at the Temple Day for Women event.
The Kaisers have kindly volunteered to provide refreshments February.
It is time to pay our local chapter dues which is $5.00 for and individual and $8.00 for a family. Dues can be submitted to the chapter treasurer.

Visiting Team Report: January 2020 A new year is upon us and we are off to a good start. I have received many good comments from patients and the nursing staff about what a wonderful thing we are doing. The doctors too are very aware of our service and give their support 100%. Our patient visits are bringing “Hope and Compassion” to all we visit. The January visits equaled 92 which makes our YTD total 92.
I am looking forward to working with this great visiting team.

Meeting Minutes
Mended Hearts Chapter 12 met Thursday, January 23, 2020, at 6:00 p.m., Room 1715 in the Baylor Scott& White Center for Diagnostic Medicine. At 6:30 p.m. following the social time, President Lloyd Jeffries introduced the speaker BS&W Cardiologist Dr. Reddy. Dr. Reddy thanked the group for the support they provide for heart patients and their families. Dr. Reddy spoke on types of treatment and procedures for aortic problems.
The business meeting was called to order at 7:00 by President Lloyd Jeffries. He welcomed the members in attendance and introduced guests Dean and Cindy Youngblood and Alan Lazarow. They shared their heart stories. The October 24, 2019 minutes were approved. Treasurer Letty Rucker gave the financial report (report is attached). It was reported that the 2018 financial records were audited in December. Mrs. Rucker explained the new membership dues policy for Chapter 12. Individual dues are $5.00 and family dues are $8.00 for the year which runs from January to December.
Mr. Jeffries reported that 1023 patient visits were made by the visiting team in 2019. He also updated the membership on Mended Hearts national events and future chapter 12 events. The national organization has begun collaboration with Aortic Hope, a national group of aorta patients. Locally, several cardiac surgeons have agreed to speak to our chapter in 2020. The membership is asked to suggest topics or other speakers. During February which is heart month, Chapter 12 will participate in an AFIB workshop on February 8 and Day for Women on February 29. On March 11, Chapter 12 will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a reception held at the Scott and White. Volunteer office will provide the refreshments and the marketing department is helping with publicity. The national office will send a plaque. Mr. Jeffries also shared that he has applied to become a Southwest Region Mended Hearts Assistant Regional Director.
Mr. Jeffries thanked Margie and David Standin for providing the refreshments for tonight and he thanked Sam and Tracy Kaiser for hosting the Holiday Gathering in December.
The 2020 officers were installed on December 14 during the Holiday Gathering by Southwest Regional Director Daniel Moravec. They are: President: Lloyd Jeffries; Vice President: Rick Whitney; Secretary: Millie Henn; Treasurer: Letty Rucker; Visiting Chair; Lloyd Jeffries.
The Kaisers have volunteered to provide refreshments in February, the Ruckers will provide refreshments in March, the Jeffries in April and Tammy Craddock in May. Dave and Margie Standin won the drawing. The next meeting will be February 27, 2020. The meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m. M. Henn, Secretary
