    Watch for an email from Lloyd Jeffries inviting you to the chapter meeting with details on how to join the meeting. We still have no word on when our chapter can resume face to face meetings or visiting.  Joining the zoom meeting provides an opportunity to see and keep up to date with one another. The visiting team is anxious to resume visiting and will do so as soon as national Mended Hearts and BS&W give us the go ahead. WE are continuing to distribute heart pillows to patients through the hospital staff. Please join us.

    Chapter News and Update

    • Ed Billeck who served as Mended Hearts Chapter president for several years, beginning in 2009, passed away at the age of 93 on September 13, 2020. Ed and his wife Lillian, who passed away in 2017, were faithful members and supporters of Chapter 12 for many years. Ed’s leadership was very much appreciated.
    • Valerie and Paul Weis are feeling good and in good spirits but still facing some medical treatment for Paul in the next few weeks.
    • Melvin Chupik is recovering from a leg injury he received while on a fishing trip. His leg is on the mend as he is also watching, along with his cardiologist, a heart valve which is leaking.
    • The Chapter 12 executive board (officers) met to review needed changes to the chapter’s bylaws to be in compliance with the recently approved changes in the Mended Hearts national bylaws.
    •  Some chapter members are past due in renewing their membership with national Mended Hearts. A membership form is attached which you can print, fill in and send to the national office in Albany, Georgia. Or you can call the national office in Georgia and renew via telephone. The number is 1-888-432-7899. If you are not sure of your membership status, the national staff can help you.  There is now a free associate membership and that membership needs to be renewed annually just as you would a paid membership. The $20.00 individual membership includes a subscription to the Heart Beat Magazine which is an award winning and informative publication.  An article about our chapter 12 will be featured in the next edition.

                    Mended Hearts Cen-Tex Chapter 12

                    August 27, 2020 Meeting Minutes

     Mended Hearts Chapter 12 met Thursday, August 27, 2020, via Zoom.   Attending the meeting were Raylene Jeffries, Tracy and Sam Kaiser, Mary Myers, Dale Whitney John Hasandras, Millie Henn, Nancy Zimmerman, and Lea Parker, Chapter 362 and an ARD for the Southwest Region.   President Jeffries called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone at 6:30 p.m.                                       

     Mr. Jeffries reviewed the Mended Hearts National Leadership Training which was held via Zoom for members across the country from August 10 through August 22, 2020. There were 8 sessions over the two weeks with an average of 97 attending each session. Topics included overview of Mended Hearts organization, diversity, fundraising, support, education, advocacy, finances and 2019 awards. More information about the Leadership Training can be found on the Mended hearts website (mendedhearts.org).

    Mr. Jeffries called the business portion of the chapter meeting to order at 7:15 p.m. The minutes from the July 23, 2020 chapter meeting were approved. The treasurer’s report given by Millie Henn in Treasurer Letty Rucker’s absence and was accepted.  The chapter’s balance is $2,797.26 with $955.49 restricted to the pillow project.

    Mr. Jeffries reported that the visiting report remains the same with 239 patient visits for the year. A question was raised about the possibility of a heart pillow distributed to a patient could count as a visit.  Mr. Jeffries will investigate the possibility.

    Mr. Whitney reported that he has ordered 50 Looking for Support postcards from the national office. A postcard can accompany a heart pillow given to a patient.  He also reported placing 14 pillows in ICU and 12 pillows going to Waco for patients there. The Website is up.

    Mrs. Henn reported distribution of an August newsletter and will distribute a September newsletter. She requested member news be sent to her to include in newsletter.

    Mr. Jeffries announced that new national by laws have been approved by the national membership. The changes will require changes in local chapter by laws. Any member wanting to run for a regional or national office must submit nominating forms by September 14. Mr. Jeffries and Mr. Whitney are working on a chapter face book page.  https://www.facebook.com/groups/mhcentexas

    Nancy Zimmerman thanked our chapter for its volunteer activities at the hospital.
