Mended Hearts Chapter 12 Executive Board met Friday, December 11, 2020 via Zoom at 2:00 p.m. Attending the meeting were Mary Myers, Rick Whitney, Letty Rucker and Millie Henn. President Jeffries called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone at 2:00 p.m.
Mrs. Henn announced a donation of fabric from Elkabees Fabric Paradise to Chapter 12’s heart pillow project. Elka Belfer , owner of the fabric company learned about our pillow project from her brother in law Bob Hoffman who is currently national vice president of Mended Hearts.
Mr. Jeffries announced that current treasurer Letty Rucker will resign the position at the end of 2020. Mr. Jeffries thanked Mrs. Rucker for her outstanding service as treasurer. He announced the appointment of Mary Myers to fill the position of treasurer for the current term which ends in 2021. It was moved by Millie Henn and seconded by Rick Whitney that the appointment be accepted and that Mrs. Myers become a signature on the Mended Hearts Chapter 12 bank account as of January 1, 2021. The motion carried.
Mr. Jeffries reviewed the changes national Mended Hearts has made that impact local chapters. National will: (1) pay postage on printed materials ordered; (2) process all memberships; (3) send 25% of chapter member national dues to the chapter; (3) chapter and group dues are eliminated.
National president Ron Manriquez wants all chapter leadership to have access to website’s live reporting.
National is offering webinars on how to complete annual reports, December 1, January 5 and January 19. Mr. Jeffries made annual report assignments: Mary Myers and Mr. Jeffries will complete the financial report; Rick Whitney and Mr. Jeffries will complete the visiting report; Millie Henn and Mr. Jeffries will complete the progress report. Deadline for reports is February 15, 2021.
National has designated two new annual awards: Heart Hero of the Year Award and Cardiologist of the Year.
Elections will be held in January and Mr. Jeffries designated Mr. Whitney the election official for Chapter 12. He will solicit the vote of chapter members and submit the results to national. Each chapter may cast one vote for each office. Southwest candidates will meet with southwest region members via zoom on January 7 at noon and p.m. central time.
A Share your Heart photo contest is being sponsored by national, asking members to submit their heart story and a photo to national. National is also planning a newsletter honoring members.
As a result of questions raised during this meeting, Mr. Jeffries notify chapter 12 members about Mary Myers’ appointment as treasurer; he will inquire from national if membership dues percentage will be sent in the form of a check or directly deposited to chapter bank account; will both Mended Hearts and Little Mended Hearts members be allowed to cast a vote for both the Mended Hearts and the Mended Little Hearts candidates?
Mrs. Rucker and Mrs. Myers will meet prior to the change in treasurer position to discuss the job responsibilities.
