AFib is an irregular and often rapid heartbeat that can increase the risk of stroke and heart complications. Symptoms may include heart palpitations, dizziness, fatigue, and shortness of breath.
-
High blood pressure, heart disease, stress, and excessive caffeine or alcohol can trigger AFib. Treatment options include medications, lifestyle changes, and medical procedures like ablation or cardioversion. While cardioversion is a transient fix, catheter ablation much more durable option. These days we have now Pulse Field ablation approach - a novel method to ablate atrial fibrillation. Regardless of considering ablation or cardioversion, it does increase the risk of stroke and therefore, blood thinners are recommended for stroke prevention.
-
Managing AFib with a heart-healthy diet, regular exercise, and stress reduction can improve quality of life.
