Hi I'm new here! I'm 47 years old. Living in Belgium for the last 25 years, originally from Singapore. Married and have 4 boys aged 20-10 years old. Stay at home mom, diabetic, PAD..  I'm still trying to get myself familiar with this forum. Please direct me to the right place if this isn't the place to be. 

I'm waiting for my triple bypass heart surgery in 3 days. From going to a routine check on the 30th of June and now to the operation theatre. Everything went too quickly and I'm definitely not ready. Not sure what to expect. Any advice will be highly appreciated 🙏

No two people's experience will be the same, but the most important advice I can give is "Stay positive." I had my open heart surgery in 2011, when I was 69, and could not believe -- still can't -- how complete my recovery was. Nearly 15 years later, at 83, I feel fine and am quite active. I know I've been lucky (some would say "blessed"), but I know it is possible. The experience has also deepened me as a person. I tell people, "I don't recommend it, but you can get a lot out of it."

my discovery was really fast too. You kinda don't have time to react to it all. I know it's scary. I hope I can help a little. They move pretty fast in the hospital. They'll have you home before you know it! At home if you have a recliner, it'll help so much for the first half of recovery. Don't use your arms much for anything because it'll make you tired and uncomfortable. Hug your pillow to stand up, not your arms. It's hard to raise your hands above your head so try not to. Remember not to cross your feet. It leads to discomfort. Sit up straight because slouching will squeeze your chest and get painful. These basics will help tremendously. Godspeed your journey 😇
