    My name is Britney I'm 25 and my boyfriend just  recently had open heart surgery Wednesday May 21st. He had quadruple bypass surgery and a leaky valve

    How is your boyfriend doing now, Britney? Is he home? How is he handling his early recovery? And how old is he if you don't mind me asking? I had quintuple bypass surgery nearly 7 1/2 years ago at age 67 and, despite the fact that they tell you it generally takes a year to fully recover, I was back to lifting weights in three months (after my sternum was healed) and running after. another month). If an old guy like me could heal that fast, it bodes well for your boyfriend.

    I hope the hospital informed him about cardiac rehab programs in your area. They are great at helping people recover from open heart surgery.

    Please keep us posted. And the more you can tell us, the more likely you'll find people who can relate and respond to you.

    He just went home yesterday and is doing very well! He is 32. He has a follow up appointment I'm a week which is nerve racking since he just got out. But other than his mobility being a little limited and trying to get his left leg healed it seems to be going really well.

    If you both are looking for additional support, we have Young Mended Hearts, created for young adults aged 18-55.  Jennifer Angelone, Coordinator of Young Mended Hearts of New England hosts monthly support groups via Zoom.  Feel free to send her an email here: ymhofnewengland@gmail.com if you would like information on the next meeting.  MHI also has a compiled list of chapters throughout the U.S. that offer virtual chapter meetings: Mended Hearts, Inc.
