I had open heart surgery and valve replacements a year and a half ago. My husband had unexpected quad bypass surgery yesterday.  We are at the same hospital on the same step down unit with different roles. This has been very triggering for me, re-living trauma, complications, and a long hospital stay. He is doing much better than I did which is also strangely triggering.  I want to be able to put this aside and focus on caring for my husband. I am really struggling with erupting feelings while trying to support and encourage my husband. All encouragements welcome.  Thanks

I was told I was a model patient following CABG, getting off the vent in two hours, walking the required discharge distance on the first walk the morning after surgery and getting discharged in three days.  The comment caused compassion for fellow heart mates because if it was easy for me, then it was obvious that others had it really tough.  Memories of tough times are sometimes difficult, so as a heart surgery mate, wishes are extended to you for coping blessings as well as best for hubby's recovery.

This must be frightening, but you have been through the surgery yourself and know recovery can be achieved. Your husband knows this because he has witnessed you recover. Now you can mutually support/inspire/guide each other. Focus on the positive.
