Has anyone had this experience?  I am 8 weeks post cabg and starting to feel like I may be able to get back to "living" instead of "recovering" before too long.  Start cardiac rehab tomorrow.  But I think I have a protruding wire and another one that is trying to come through the skin.   When I read online that a protruding wire requires surgery with typically general anesthesia-- and so it will require more "recovering"

'.  (I would love to get back in the swimming pool for swmming groups).  This hit me hard when I read this and I believe it has thrown me into the depression that I have read attacks so many cabg patients.  I would really like to hear from anyone who has had this experience.  I have an appointment with the surgeon's office Friday.  Best to you all-- (And, it all gets better, it really does).

The knot bulges caused by the wire ties on the sternum are a bit disconcerting but a small price to pay for the benefit of the surgery.  Hope all is well with them.

Thank you for reply Arlen.  You are right!  Someone said it may be a stitch and not a wire and I am hoping for that.  Thanks

Whatever you do for your wire, be sure to get to cardiac rehab when recommended by your Doc. Those who do rehab have much better outcomes.

Yes!  Thank you Steve. I went for the first time today and I can see it is going to be a lifeline!  The people and exercise are so uplifting and give me hope of being able to exercise and walk longer distances again. One of them even told me she thinks the "wire" could be just a stitch which I think is better.  Thank you so much for your message. I have been kind of "cooped up" in here for a while living on bonanza reruns (which is a great show by the way). Happy Holidays to you

For anyone interested-- It seems that what I thought might be a wire protruding through the skin is a stitch!  And it will likely dissolve by itself--great news.

Also, I am told that if a wire does try to protrude through the skin there would be a lot of pain.  Big difference.
