Hi! I am new to Mended Hearts. I was just diagnosed with Coronary Artery Disease. I had 4 stents placed recently. I don't know what to expect from Coronary Heart Disease. Can some one give me a little insight to this disease. I am trying to eat healthy but, I do not know what else to do to keep myself healthy. I am 59 years old and hope to live into my 80's.

    Hello Linda,
Welcome to the club, so to speak. One of the things that can assist you would be to enroll in a cardiac rehab program. I know you did not have surgery on your heart, but the rehab programs are set up to assist you in changing life style patterns as well. You doctor may not have suggested this to you so you will have to ask for him/her to refer you to a program. If there is not on available, check with you medical insurance about a gym memberships. Many medical insurances offer paid memberships to reduce your chances of future heart problems.
Mended Hearts can also be followed on twitter and there are answers to many questions there. Eating healthy by itself is a good start, but there is more to it than that. Some of the factors involved are genetic.for some people. This is something that can not be changed. I do not know your family history, so check with as many family members as you can to find out medical histories. This will help you to determine if there are other factors that may cause issues in the future and you will be able to take steps to avoid them.
The key is educate yourself, attend the meetings at you local MH chapter and find out more information. This will help give you the tools to move ahead. Keep smiling and find ways to laugh about this because a good sense of humor makes it all easier to stay on track.

    Take care, Richard Short
