I was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse as a child. I have been followed and had regular stress tests and echocardiograms. In the fall of 2020 I noticed more trouble with climbing my one set of stairs making me out of breath. I also could tell my stamina was reduced. After a TEE they uncovered that I had many leaks and classified my regurgitation as moderate to severe. I consulted a local cardio thoracic surgeon who explained that he was not confident due to the complexity of my problems that he could do a repair. He gave me three surgeons to talk to for second opinions. I ended up having my surgery with Dr. David Adams at Mt Sinai hospital in NYC. I had never visited NYC so it was a full adventure during COVID.
